Camera cutaway, pull out wide to Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne\u003cbr/\u003eThe Songwriters Hall of Fame held its annual induction ceremony Thursday (13 JUNE) in the heart of New York's Times Square.\u003cbr/\u003eInductees for the organization's 43rd anniversary covered a wide range of styles and eras, but gave kudos to a pair of rock bands.\u003cbr/\u003eAerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are among this year's class.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I love that Joe and I are getting inducted tonight because we put our nose to the grindstone. Souther, Tony Hatch, and Holly Knight. Young songwriters were recognized too with Benny Blanco receiving the Hal David Starlight Award.\u003cbr/\u003eBlanco is known for writing such hits as Maroon Five's \"Moves Like Jagger,\" and \"Teenage Dream\" by Katy Perry.\u003cbr/\u003eRob Thomas presented Blanco with the award. On the red carpet, he spoke of the gift.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's an amazing thing. And it's the most mystical part, because you can't teach it. I don't think you teach someone how to write a song. You either have a song in your head, or you don't,\" Thomas said.\u003cbr/\u003eMotown founder Berry Gordy received the Pioneer Award. His good friend Smokey Robinson presented it to him. Or something to, you know,\" Cole said.\u003cbr/\u003eTennis great John McEnroe walked the red carpet with his wife, Patty Smyth. She was going to induct Holly Knight. Smyth performed one of Knight's songs with her band, Scandal, in the 1980s.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Songwriters Hall of Fame celebrates songwriters, educates the public with regard to their achievements, and produces a spectrum of professional programs devoted to the development of new songwriting talent through workshops, showcases and scholarships. \u003cbr/\u003eOut of the tens of thousands of songwriters of our era, there are fewer than 400 inductees who make up the impressive roster enshrined in the Hall of Fame. \u003cbr/\u003eThe list includes Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier and Brian Holland, Smokey Robinson, Albert Hammond, Desmond Child, Paul Williams, Hal David and Burt Bacharach, John Fogerty, Bob Dylan, Isaac Hayes and
