Mid of drummer ending performance and taking applause\u003cbr/\u003eA group of talented female musicians from Cairo are creating beautiful music.\u003cbr/\u003eBut learning to play together as an orchestra is even more of a challenge for these women - all of them are blind and must memorise entire scores from braille.\u003cbr/\u003ePlaying an instrument in an orchestra takes talent, skill and hard work. \u003cbr/\u003eIn this orchestra the musicians face an extra challenge. \u003cbr/\u003eEvery single woman is blind.\u003cbr/\u003eAman Fikry is vice President of El Nour Wal Amal (Light and Hope) Association.\u003cbr/\u003eShe explains: \"El Nour Wal Amal Light and Hope Association was founded in 1954 as the first centre in the Middle East for the education, vocational training  care and integration into society for the blind girls and women.\"\u003cbr/\u003eToday the Association provides free education, literacy programmes and vocational training to more than 300 blind girls and women. The women learn to thread carpets and weave wicker tables that they sell to help fund the school.\u003cbr/\u003eThe members of Cairo's Egyptian Blind Girls Chamber Orchestra must first learn the songs by reading sheet music in braille.  \u003cbr/\u003eSince it is impossible to read braille and play an instrument at the same time, the musicians must memorise every note of every song. \u003cbr/\u003eBut this isn't the only challenge they've had to overcome - getting the tempo correct and knowing when to come in is also hard because the women cannot see a conductor - who would normally manage the orchestra.\u003cbr/\u003e\"They have to memorise everything and then they do not have a maestro.  The maestro only tells them to start,\" says Fikry.\u003cbr/\u003eShaimaa Yehia is a member of the orchestra. She explains just how hard she works to learn each piece. \u003cbr/\u003e \"First we learn how to read the notes in braille, and we learn each symbol, each musical symbol in braille. Then we learn how to read the note, then we memorise every note depending on its difficulty we memorise fast or slow.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThis is just a rehearsal session for the group, the main performance will take place at the Turkish Embassy in Cairo.\u003cbr/\u003eThe orchestra travels the world playing for embassies, music schools and other international hosts. \u003cbr/\u003eMarwa Solieman, a violinist in the orchestra says she is proud to represent her country at home and abroad.\u003cbr/\u003e \"Abroad we represent Egypt and we represent the Arab world, so we are representatives of our country.\"\u003cbr/\u003eFikry recognises their success and hopes they will become even more well-known to an international audience. \u003cbr/\u003e \"They are more successful abroad than here in Egypt, but I hope inshallah (god willing) that here in Egypt they will start to be known as well as abroad.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBut the orchestra is constantly striving to improve, and each performance is tighter than the last.\u003cbr/\u003eShaimaa Yehia is proud of all she has achieved.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Because we represent Egypt we represent blind woman.
