Thousands of men took part in a 'national vasectomy festival' held in honour of the King's 68th birthday.\u003cbr/\u003eKing Bhumibol Adulyadej is a keen supporter of the country's birth control programmes.  This prompted family planning clinics throughout Thailand to hold a \"free vasectomy day\".\u003cbr/\u003eIn the capital, Bangkok, thousands of men queued for hours to take up the offer of a free operation - using only local anaesthetic.\u003cbr/\u003eBy eight o'clock in the morning the 16 communal operating tables in this Bangkok Hospital were all full of men taking part in the \"King's Birthday Vasectomy Festival\".\u003cbr/\u003eThis novel idea for a national birthday tribute to King Bhumibol Adulyadej was the brainchild of Thailand's family planning association. \u003cbr/\u003eClinics throughout the land were offering a day of free vasectomies for all men with two or more children.\u003cbr/\u003eThis ancient Chinese method involves just a tiny puncture in the\u003cbr/\u003eskin, using a local anaesthetic. Thai people and the King have a great relationship. This is an attempt to destroy the notion held by some Thai men that a vasectomy can lead to impotence, physical weakness and obesity.\u003cbr/\u003eWe heard that the King and Queen had said vasectomy, family planning should be promoted. In fact family planning is a public service written into our constitution.
