Street scene\u003cbr/\u003eA child protection society representative in Malawi has said that he was concerned about the rights of a Malawian child adopted by US pop singer Madonna.\u003cbr/\u003eMaxwell Matewere, Executive Director of Eye of the Child, said that Malawi's laws were not currently sufficient to provide for inter-country adoption.\u003cbr/\u003e\"In the end what we want is the full legal protection to be granted to baby David as an adopted child,\" he said, speaking on Saturday in Blantyre.\u003cbr/\u003eLast week, Malawi's High Court granted Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie an interim adoption order giving them custody of David Banda, a Malawian boy, for 18 months. \u003cbr/\u003eAuthorities said that during that time the couple would be evaluated by the Malawi courts.\u003cbr/\u003eThe order waived a Malawian law requiring would-be parents to live in the country for a year while social welfare officers investigate their ability to care for a child.\u003cbr/\u003eMatawere added that they were concerned that without legal protection in place Malawian children could be at risk.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We are concerned that if we are not careful in our wake so many children who we're supposed to help might be subjected to trafficking for different reason.
