Katsav walking away\u003cbr/\u003eAn emotional memorial service was held Monday, to commemorate the death of 11 Israeli athletes killed 30 years ago in Munich at the1972 Olympic Games. \u003cbr/\u003eIsrael's President Moshe Katsav, attended the Tel Aviv ceremony and joined with over a hundred mourners, many in tears, in laying wreathes and symbolically lighting a torch, replicating the Olympic flame.\u003cbr/\u003eIllana Romano, wife of the murdered weight lifter, Josef, and Walther Troeger, the then mayor of the Munich Olympic village, both spoke at the service. Romano noted that the subsequent olympic Games had failed to commemorate the massacre with a minutes silence.\u003cbr/\u003eOn the night of Sept. 5, 1972, a group of armed Palestinians from the Black September group entered an Olympic Village apartment house, killing two Israeli athletes and holding the others hostage in an effort to gain the freedom of 200 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. \u003cbr/\u003eDuring a botched rescue attempt that followed a 20-hour standoff at an airfield near Munich, the Palestinians killed the remaining nine Israeli athletes and coaches. Five terrorists and a German policeman also died in the firefight.\u003cbr/\u003eThe kidnapping - much of it played out on TV screens around the world - and killing of the Israeli athletes was
