pirated copies stream out of factories in China into  shops around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eThese posters warn people not to break copyright laws.\u003cbr/\u003eThey cite a case where one Chinese company had to pay US$ 1.06 million (m)  compensation, but in reality the posters are ignored.\u003cbr/\u003eTalks between China and the US to resolve the issue broke down last year and even  after a month-long extension there has been no agreement on how to stop the pirates.\u003cbr/\u003eNow the US has decided to act.\u003cbr/\u003eUS Trade Representative Mickey Kantor announced yesterday that 100 percent tariffs  are to be imposed on over one (b) billion dollars worth of Chinese imports to the US.\u003cbr/\u003eBut there will be a grace period of three weeks, allowing the two countries to resume  the stalled talks on the alleged piracy of American goods. \u003cbr/\u003eThere has also been concern in America over the growing trade deficit with China.\u003cbr/\u003eAnnual imports from China are running at more than four times the current value of  exports. \u003cbr/\u003eA number of fast-rising imports like Chinese made cellular telephones have been  targeted for the new tariffs.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Chinese immediately retaliated announcing they would match the US with 100  percent tariffs on various American products.\u003cbr/\u003eThe World's third largest economy, China is keen to become part of the World Trade  Organisation.\u003cbr/\u003eBut to do that, the US insists it must enforce the GATT agreement rules on copyright  and patent protection.\u003cbr/\u003e1.
