Or some studies have shown that stem cells isolated from the peripheral blood.  We have taken this a step further and have isolated a very rare cell type that is found in the circulation and we chose a rather unique approach to isolate that single cell.  And furthermore we think that our approach has allowed us to isolate the cell in a very primordial state.  It is a very early stem cell and that gives it the potential to differentiate into a lot of different cell types and unlike most other adult stem cells that have been described these appear to turn into neurons (cells relating to nervous system)  So for a number of conditions such as Parkinson's disease and spinal cord injury these adult derived stem cells may in fact be very beneficial because they do appear to go down the nerve pathway.\"          \u003cbr/\u003e4. of becoming other cells that form nerves, blood vessels and different types of tissue.\u003cbr/\u003eSo far, molecular biologist Elmer Price has not been able to isolate the cells from human blood, but he believes he eventually will, which could lead to human studies.\u003cbr/\u003eThe report published in the journal, Stem Cells and Development, says the University of Missouri team have isolated a primordial adult stem cell which  \"unlike most other adult stem cells that have been described these appear to turn into neurons\" (cells relating to the nervous system). \u003cbr/\u003eThe author Elmer Price says after he and colleagues isolated the stem cells from the blood of pigs, they used different chemical signals to convert them into neurons, bone cells, fat cells and two kinds of blood vessel cells.\u003cbr/\u003eAnimal Scientist, Dr Prather, worked with a specially designed line of pigs that have a gene for the enhanced green fluorescent protein, making it easy to track the developing adult stem cells.\u003cbr/\u003eThe researchers transplanted the grown nerve cells into the brains and spinal cords of rats, where the cells continued to develop.\u003cbr/\u003ePrice said the cells appeared to be forming connections to existing nerve cells, but more research will be needed to determine whether the new cells are actually communicating with other nerve cells.\u003cbr/\u003eStem cells are unspecialised cells, able to reproduce themselves or grow into the dozens of kinds of cells that form the tissues of the body. \u003cbr/\u003eNewly formed embryos contain stem cells that can form into every kind of cell.\u003cbr/\u003eAdult stem cells are more limited in what type of cell they can become.\u003cbr/\u003ePrice said he is the first to isolate what he described as a more \"primordial\" kind of stem cell from blood, a stem cell that is able to form several kinds of cells.\u003cbr/\u003eThere's only about one such cell in every 100 million blood cells. \u003cbr/\u003eFrom each blood draw, Price isolated just one or two of the cells and over several months he grew the cells into colonies of about 100 million cells.\u003cbr/\u003ePrice's research is not related to stem cells from human embryos, a type of research that has sparked debate across the United States. \u003cbr/\u003ePrice said adult stem cells do not have the flexibility to
