Close up computer screen\u003cbr/\u003eNapster, the music file-swapping Internet service that heralded in the music downloading revolution relaunched on Thursday after having been shut down in 2001 after a protracted legal battle with recording companies.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe new service, Napster 2.0 was introduced at a press conference in Manhattan by executives from Roxio Inc., a California-based company that bought the Napster name brand in November 2002.\u003cbr/\u003eRoxio shelved its former online music service, pressplay, and began switching subscribers to a beta, or  test version, of Napster 2.0. The limited service will be available  in the United States beginning Oct. 29.   \u003cbr/\u003eUsers will have access to more than a half-million\u003cbr/\u003esongs from all the major music labels. They can download individual songs for 99 cents and albums for $9.95. The service also offers\u003cbr/\u003eaccess to unlimited downloads and streaming for $9.95 per month.\u003cbr/\u003eThe service allows users to burn or copy single songs onto CDs an unlimited number of times, but, like other services, users can't burn more than five CDs with the same playlist.    \u003cbr/\u003eThe recording industry had successfully shutdown the original Napster, which established a peer-to-peer network for users to swap music with one another without paying copyright holders. The company went bankrupt and dissolved last year.\u003cbr/\u003eNapster 2.0 will allow song-sharing between users who hold subscription accounts and the ability to browse other users' music lists, among other\u003cbr/\u003efeatures. \u003cbr/\u003eRoxio executives are betting that the Napster brand will stand up to competition from a bevy of other digital music retailers that have launched since Apple Computer Inc. introduced its iTunes Music Store in April.    \u003cbr/\u003eLast week, MusicMatch Inc. launched a Web site that sells song and album downloads and boasts record label licensing agreements that offered\u003cbr/\u003ethe fewest copying restrictions yet outside of iTunes.  \u003cbr/\u003eOthers, including Buy.com's BuyMusic.com, RealNetworks' Rhapsody, MusicNow and MusicNet, are also vying for a piece of the\u003cbr/\u003emarket.\u003cbr/\u003eThe music industry  has been financial hit over the last three years as illegal music file-sharing exploded and CD sales fell.  \u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking at the press conference  on behalf of artists was rapper Ludacris.
