The pirates have been detected when they were approaching the two fishing vessels so the military teams on board the fishing vessels were able to react, first launching flares just to signify that the fishing ships were protected and then they shot warning shots in front of the pirate skiffs, this was enough and sufficient to convince the pirates that it was useless to pursue their attack.\"\u003cbr/\u003e4. First of all they used their flares to warn the pirates that the ships were protected and then they fired a warning shot in front of the pirates ship and that was enough to convince the pirates that an attack was useless that the risk wasn't worth it and to oblige them to turn around.\" \u003cbr/\u003e9. Prazuck talking to media\u003cbr/\u003eFrench soldiers in the Indian Ocean opened fire on Tuesday on pirates, warding off an attack on two French tuna fishing vessels off the Seychelles Islands, a military official said.\u003cbr/\u003eFrench military spokesman Rear Admiral Christophe Prazuck said the two French tuna trawlers were attacked on Tuesday about 200 nautical miles (370 kilometres) off the Seychelles islands.\u003cbr/\u003eHe identified the two trawlers as  'Via Avenir' and the 'Via Mistral'.\u003cbr/\u003ePrazuck said the pirates fled following the French counterattack and that the incident was finished for the moment. \u003cbr/\u003e\"They shot warning shots in front of the pirate skiffs, this was enough and sufficient to convince the pirates that it was useless to pursue their attack,\" \u003cbr/\u003ePrazuck said.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said the French soldiers were not following the pirates because they are aboard slow-moving fishing boats.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier information from another official had suggested the operation was still under way.\u003cbr/\u003eThe French government has stationed military personnel aboard fishing boats off East Africa since July to protect the fishermen from pirates in the region.\u003cbr/\u003eFrench military officials said over the weekend that members of its force had fired on pirates to protect two fishing boats in the waters off the Seychelles. \u003cbr/\u003eEleven men suspected of involvement in that foiled attack were captured following a high-seas pursuit. \u003cbr/\u003eThe nationality of the suspects was not known, but
