It is a triumph,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"And when you want to kill a bull, you have to be convinced about doing it. And you have to be sure and kill it in an instant.\u003cbr/\u003e\"My dream is to become a bullfighting figure, and I do have goals and objectives. One of them is being accomplished: to perform at the Plaza Mexico Bull fighting arena. The goal is to win over and over again in order to become a matador,\" he continues. \u003cbr/\u003eRecently, the Mexican state of Sonora and the city of Veracruz have brought in laws against bullfighting.\u003cbr/\u003eAnimal rights activists have mounted a vocal campaign.\u003cbr/\u003e\"(The) reality is that the bull is suffering for the pleasure of a few. The bull is tortured to amuse a few people. That is ethically unfair,\" says activist Dulce Ramirez.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Guadalajara, the City Hall legally supports the bull fighting school and, until three years ago, they also supported it economically. \u003cbr/\u003eNow, it only pays for the teachers. \u003cbr/\u003eIt started with nearly 200 students, but today it attracts just 22 youngsters - who attend classes every afternoon.  \u003cbr/\u003eSome of them start at the age of 10.\u003cbr/\u003e\"They do study the art of bullfighting, because it is an art as it is a skill. There are martial arts, culinary arts, so this is an art of doing something, it is a skill and that is why they say that it is an art,\" says Ramirez.\u003cbr/\u003e\"But, the fact of these youngsters having this dream of becoming bullfighters, to me and for Toro Vivo (anti-bullfighting organisation), it is just not relevant.\"\u003cbr/\u003eOrganisations such as Toro Vivo (Living Bull) have been campaigning against bullfighting, but do not feel they have made much progress.\u003cbr/\u003eBut now their cause is being backed a member of the City Council in Guadalajara, who is proposing that all children be banned from watching bullfighting at the city's arena. \u003cbr/\u003e\"What I am working on is to forbid access to minors to bullfights in this city, in order to end the bull fighting in the near future,\" says Salvador Caro.\u003cbr/\u003eIf the proposals he is putting forward are passed, he hopes action could then be taken to close down the bullfighting school as well - which attracts mainly young people. \u003cbr/\u003eThose organising the bullfights here admit that audience figures have been up and down in recent years - including a decline in young people attending.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There was a transition time when youngsters stopped coming to the bullfights,\" says Jorge Lopez, Manager of the Guadalajara Nuevo Progreso Bullfight Arena.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Maybe one generation that stopped coming with their parents and grandparents. Because that's how bullfighting fans come to the arena, by the hands of their parents.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDuring the past five years, bullfighting shows in Guadalajara have raised an average of 750,000 US dollars a year through ticket sales. \u003cbr/\u003eLaying on a bullfight can cost anywhere from 80,000 US dollars to 240,000 US dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eA full season includes eight Sundays a year.\u003cbr/\u003eTickets prices range from 10 US dollars to 80 US dollars, in a country where the minimum wage is five US dollars a day. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It is very hard for the bullfight companies. The high production cost of the bullfighting has made the ticket prices rise,\" says Lopez.\u003cbr/\u003eCaro adds: \"There have been years when it has been more expensive to support the teachers in the bullfighting school than the amount of money recovered by the City from bullfight show taxes.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBut there are still fans of bullfighting out there, who come to watch the spectacle here in Guadalajara.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd for those that do, the opponents are never far away reminding them of their message.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Bullfighting serves unilateral interests, despotic decrees that serve the interests of only a few, not the interests of the majority of society,\" sums up Ramirez.\u003cbr/\u003eCampaigners have even taken to hiring an aeroplane to fly protest banners over the arena during fights. \u003cbr/\u003eAP Television\u003cbr/\u003eGuadalajara, Mexico - 19 August 2013\u003cbr/\u003e1.
