Close up bandaged, wounded baby\u003cbr/\u003eA fundamentalist Islamic force poured dozens of troops into the battle for a strategic road in Somalia's capital on Thursday in a clash with secular warlords that has left at least 130 dead -  mostly civilians caught in the crossfire -  over the past five days.\u003cbr/\u003eThe heavily armed reinforcements arrived in pickup trucks mounted with heavy machine guns. \u003cbr/\u003eFighters from both sides closed in on each other following a night of artillery exchanges that sent thousands of civilians fleeing the Sii-Sii neighbourhood of northern Mogadishu.\u003cbr/\u003eMogadishu residents described it as the worst fighting in more than a decade of warlord-driven anarchy and lawlessness. \u003cbr/\u003eThousands of families were fleeing the capital.\u003cbr/\u003eChildren have not been spared in the sudden escalation of violence. \u003cbr/\u003eAP Television News filmed several badly injured children who were wounded in the fighting at the hospital in Mogadishu.\u003cbr/\u003eMilitia loyal to the Islamic Court Union have been fighting since Sunday to capture a strategic road through northern Mogadishu from the Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counterterrorism. \u003cbr/\u003eWhile the alliance has held the road through Sii-Sii, the courts have controlled the neighbourhoods on either side.\u003cbr/\u003eThe alliance accuses the union of having ties to al-Qaida, while the Islamic group say the warlords are puppets of the United States. \u003cbr/\u003eIslamic fundamentalists have portrayed themselves as an alternative capable of bringing order and peace to a country that has had no effective central government since 1991, but they have not hesitated to use force. \u003cbr/\u003eBoth sides have been squaring off for a major battle for control of the city in recent weeks. \u003cbr/\u003eIslamic radicals have built up their forces as part of a campaign to install an Islamic government in Somalia, something opposed by warlords who divided the country into clan-based fiefdoms following the overthrow of longtime dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.\u003cbr/\u003eThis latest fighting may only be the beginning. \u003cbr/\u003eOther clan militias with loose loyalties to both sides have not joined in the fighting yet, but they continue to man defences in the neighbourhoods they control and tensions are rising.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the United Nations on Wednesday, the Security Council urged all nations to adhere to an existing arms embargo in Somalia. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the council ignored
