We're hearing a lot about the three, but remember 16 nations who include of course Turkey and the US have stood up for Turkey. Turkey has now said under Article Four to the Alliance 'We want to consult with you as to what our needs might be'. Hearing in progress\u003cbr/\u003eUS Secretary of State Colin  Powell on Tuesday urged NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) to provide military support to help Turkey defend itself in the event of a possible US-led war with Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This is time for the alliance to say to a fellow alliance member, 'We agree with you, and if you are concerned, we are concerned.' That's what alliances are all about,\" Powell said at a testimony to the US Senate Budget Committee.\u003cbr/\u003ePowell said Friday's report of the UN weapons inspectors to the United Nations Security Council would be a critical test for both Iraq and for the Security Council itself. Powell said he hoped the Security Council would meet its responsibilities in the current crisis.\u003cbr/\u003eThe US Secretary of  State cited comments by Dr Hans Blix that more inspectors were not the answer to the problem of verification in Iraq. He defended the US position as not being one of pique, but about real weapons that have not been accounted for by Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.\u003cbr/\u003ePowell said the US, as well as many of its allies, would not look away from the coming challenge.\u003cbr/\u003eThe split between the United States and its allies widened when France, Germany and Belgium jointly vetoed on Monday a US-backed measure to authorize NATO to make plans to protect Turkey if Iraq attacks it. Russia then joined France and Germany in demanding strengthened weapons inspections.\u003cbr/\u003ePowell made the remarks as NATO ambassadors met for an emergency session on Tuesday to negotiate whether the alliance should provide military assistance to Turkey, a member of the treaty organisation.\u003cbr/\u003eFrance, Germany and Belgium on Monday blocked the 19-member alliance from
