Wide shot of ground zero\u003cbr/\u003eNew York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on Tuesday the plans for next month's September 11th anniversary remembrance ceremony. \u003cbr/\u003eA year after terrorists killed thousands, a solemn ceremony has been planned and \"simple and powerful\" smaller observances will be held throughout the day.\u003cbr/\u003eThe mayor said victims' families would be invited to descend the ramp seven stories to the footprint of the twin towers. \u003cbr/\u003eEach family will pick up a rose and place it in a vase for an arrangement that will be preserved for a permanent memorial.\u003cbr/\u003eHe also said that it was appropriate that former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani will begin a reading of the victims' names at ground zero ceremony. \u003cbr/\u003eA cross-section of New Yorkers and those from around the world, including those who lost family members and coworkers in the attack, will follow Giuliani in reading victims' names.\u003cbr/\u003eA moment of silence will be observed at 8:46 a.m., one year to the minute after American Airlines Flight 11 careened into the north tower. Governor George Pataki will then read the Gettysburg Address.\u003cbr/\u003eThe ceremony was to conclude with a second moment of silence just before 10:30 a.m., the time that the north tower collapsed. Pataki said houses of worship and schools would be encouraged to toll bells.\u003cbr/\u003eMayor Bloomberg said that there will be increased police protection and other kinds of security taking place and as far as concerns for security, the city should be in, \"good shape\" for the anniversary. \u003cbr/\u003eHe also said that the patriotic readings chosen for the day's ceremonies will send a message to the terrorists.  \u003cbr/\u003eCity officials were also careful to seek the opinions of family members for the one-year service.\u003cbr/\u003eChristy Ferer, whose husband Neil Levin, was director of the Port Authority when he was killed in the attacks, said she was grateful to the Mayor and Governor for setting aside so much time for the families on this day.   \u003cbr/\u003eBusinesses throughout the city have been discussing how, and whether, to mark the day. More than a dozen Broadway theaters will go dark on September 11.\u003cbr/\u003eThe White House announced last week that President Bush plans to visit New York City on September 11. The mayor said Bush would light an \"eternal flame\" in Battery Park at a sunset service.\u003cbr/\u003eCity officials said communities nationwide are encouraged to hold sunset gatherings and candlelight vigils that evening.\u003cbr/\u003eThe day's events also will include tribute concerts at parks in all five boroughs.\u003cbr/\u003eCity leaders had received thousands of suggestions on
