announced late on Tuesday that it had decided to stop carrying online auctions that feature hate-related material such as medals, weapons, uniforms, official documents and other items carrying swastikas or other symbols associated with hate groups.\u003cbr/\u003eThey join a banned list that now includes cigarettes, live animals and used underwear.\u003cbr/\u003eFrench advocacy groups called the decision a victory following their legal battle over the past 10 months to have the hate-related items banned in France.\u003cbr/\u003eThe new guidelines will apply to the site's classified listings and its e-commerce partners. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever, Yahoo! search directories, chat rooms and other areas are not affected.\u003cbr/\u003eThe real surprise was the blanket decision by Yahoo! to simply stop carrying such auctions, anywhere.\u003cbr/\u003eDuring a trial in France, Yahoo's lawyers had argued that blocking the site from the French would be technically impossible. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Internet has no borders, they argued, and there is no effective way to prevent its users from travelling where they like.\u003cbr/\u003eThe case took legal issues surrounding the borderless Internet to new frontiers.\u003cbr/\u003eIn May, a French judge ordered Yahoo! to pay one thousand U-S dollar to each of two anti-racism groups that sued, ruling that the Internet company had offended the nation's \\\"collective memory.\\\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe judge also ordered Yahoo!
