nation faces an economic meltdown.\u003cbr/\u003eStores in border towns like Messina reported vigorous business, as Zimbabweans stocked up on supplies and petrol to take back to their homes.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I'm taking this stuff back home because at our shops there we've got nothing really, nothing,\" said one Zimbabwean shopper, as she wheeled away a trolley full of goods from a supermarket in Messina.\u003cbr/\u003eThings were tough, she added, in her country.\u003cbr/\u003eA government order last month to slash prices by around 50 percent to curb inflation has led to acute shortages of staple foods, gasoline and many\u003cbr/\u003ebasics, including matches needed during daily power and water outages.\u003cbr/\u003eOfficial inflation has soared to 4,500 percent, the highest in the world, although private financial institutions estimates real inflation closer to 9-thousand percent.\u003cbr/\u003eA Messina store manager explained that traders in Zimbabwe were not replacing stock because they did not want to \"sell stock at half their cost.\"\u003cbr/\u003eMost supermarkets in Zimbabwe are running empty following the government directive to reduce in a campaign for \"regime change,\" thereby forcing the government to intervene.\u003cbr/\u003eAt least 3-thousand executives and business managers have been arrested and fined in the prices clampdown for alleged overcharging. \u003cbr/\u003eWestern nations have imposed travel restrictions on Mugabe and ruling party leaders known as targeted sanctions to protest the country's human rights
