the opening ceremony.\u003cbr/\u003eThe footbridge leading to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was still under construction. \u003cbr/\u003eFive people were seriously injured and taken to hospitals, a police officer said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe stadium, which is to host the opening and closing ceremonies and athletics during the October 3-14 Games, was supposed to be connected to a car park by the bridge.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was the latest setback to New Delhi's troubled preparations for the Commonwealth Games, which brings together more than 7,000 athletes and officials from the 71 countries and territories in the commonwealth every four years.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier in the day, Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) president Michael Fennell contacted the Indian government and urged them to finish work on the athletes' village, which many have called \"unliveable.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"Many nations that have already sent their advanced parties to set up within the village have made it abundantly clear that, as of the afternoon of September 20th, the Commonwealth Games Village is seriously compromised,\" Fennell said in a statement. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The CGF has asked the Cabinet Secretary to immediately deploy the necessary resources to fix all the outstanding issues to an acceptable level.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe athletes' village is due to open on Thursday. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Times of India newspaper reported that only 18 of 34 residential towers at the village are complete.\u003cbr/\u003eNew Zealand team manager Dave Currie, speaking before the bridge collapse, said the Games may not go ahead if the village is not ready for athletes.\u003cbr/\u003eCurrie said New Zealand would consult with other countries before making a final decision on whether it will take part in
