Framing through a tree, ship passes the canal\u003cbr/\u003eBase and bungee jumping are popular summer pastimes in Bulgaria, but one man is taking the sport to new heights.\u003cbr/\u003eTo mark his 44th birthday, Rosen Kasabov attempted to jump 44 times from a 52 metre  bridge over a canal near the Black sea.\u003cbr/\u003eUnder the Asparuhov bridge located between Black sea and Varna's Lake in Bulgaria, base jumpers are preparing their parachutes.\u003cbr/\u003eAt 52 metres (170.6 feet), the Asparuhov bridge is one of the lowest level challenges for base jumps.\u003cbr/\u003eBase jumping involves using a parachute to jump from fixed objects. \u003cbr/\u003eTo make things more interesting, jumpers often leap with only a few seconds drop time to deploy the parachute, and virtually no time at all to deal with problems or malfunctions.\u003cbr/\u003eA full parachute opening needs 38-45 meters of free flight (124.6 - 147.6 feet).\u003cbr/\u003eThe practice is not technically illegal, but jumpers are often accused of trespassing as they try to jump for ever more imaginative places - including private property. \u003cbr/\u003eToday Kasabov  and his fellow jumpers are breaking no rules by jumping from the Asparuhov bridge.  The jumps are offered as part of a club package. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Club Adrenalin is the only one which provides all kinds of extreme sport in Bulgaria, and base-jumping for the last year. Because today is my 44th birthday,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003eFormer paratrooper Kasabov founded the club twenty years ago for bungee jumpers.  They started to offer base jumping a year ago. \u003cbr/\u003eSome jumpers do not attach the parachute to their backs preferring to hold it almost unfurled in their hands. They say the parachute opens very quickly in this way and is therefore safer.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough the practice is considered to be one of the most dangerous extreme sports in the world,  all the jumpers here believe it is safe - especially from the Asparuhov bridge  where people will always land in the water. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the canal is busy with boat traffic which can be perilous if it gets in the way. \u003cbr/\u003eKasabov says the club has helped more than 1000 thrill seekers base jump from the bridge over the past year and has so far not suffered a single injury of fatality. \u003cbr/\u003eSports magazine and user websites estimate that there is one fatality in 60 jumps globally. \u003cbr/\u003ePerhaps the weather has been kind to Kasabov then - he's completed 26 jumps in his attempt to do as many jumps as his age in years.
