We would have been killed in Belgium had we remained there and we would have been killed in Poland if we had been deported there. And the Red Star Lines saved all our lives,\" she said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe museum is housed in the original departure warehouses for third-class passengers, and tells visitors their stories through video, archive photos and first person testimonies from people who travelled on the line.\u003cbr/\u003eIn 1893, five-year-old Israeli Isidore Baline was among the migrants, part of a family fleeing increasing anti-Semitic violence in Russia.\u003cbr/\u003eBaline became Irving Berlin after the family settled in New York's lower East Side and evergreen classics like \"God Bless America\" and \"White Christmas\" made him famous in his new country and around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eNow, one of Berlin's pianos stands in the museum, on extended loan from the family. \u003cbr/\u003eHis daughter and two granddaughters were on hand for the opening ceremonies.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think that it's very important to give credit to immigrants because I think that immigration is what also gives a country its dynamic and its vitality and we tend to forget how hard it is to emigrate,\" said his granddaughter Caroline Emmet-Bourgois.\u003cbr/\u003e\"They passed here in the late 19th century and he had no formal musical education but he was so talented that less than 20 years later his music was played in first class on the Belgenland,\" said museum project coordinator Luc Verheyen.\u003cbr/\u003eNobel Prize winner Einstein was a famous passenger on the line but when he was on the Belgenland II in 1933, and learned that the Nazis had confiscated his possessions, he used Red Star Line stationery to write his resignation from the Prussian Academy for the Sciences and did not return to Berlin.\u003cbr/\u003eSeptember 24, 2013\u003cbr/\u003e1.
