So they have no virus, so we transfuse to the patients and eight patients were  transfused and only one patient died.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION:  Dr. Jean-Jacques Muyembe Tamfum, Virologist\u003cbr/\u003eThe central Zairean town, Kikwit, was quarantined in May this year after the deadly virus  spread through the town killing 233 people.  \u003cbr/\u003eThose who contracted the virus died within days.  The mortality rate for the disease is  80 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eThis is not the first time doctors have used this method of treatment.  In 1976 doctors  used a similar treatment resulting in similar results.\u003cbr/\u003eThe medical establishment is optimistic but is treating the so-called remedy with  caution.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think it's hopeful.  It's not new.  This has been done before - in the first Ebola outbreak  in 1976.  They used what is called antiserum, blood from people who have gotten over  Ebola to treat those who are sick.  With seven patients though, it's hopeful, it's not  unbelievably exciting.  Some people do get over Ebola regardless of what's done.
