By contrast the Salihara Community is purely a private endeavour.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Salihara Community is also home to a state-of-the-art black box theatre, the first of its kind in the country.\u003cbr/\u003eThe theatre has a flexible stage. It also boasts a superior sound facility with its soundproof brick walls. It can accommodate over 250 people for various musical and art performances. \u003cbr/\u003eOpened in 2008, the centre has indoor and outdoor galleries as well as the theatre on its 3,060 square metre site in South Jakarta. It also sells merchandise and has a bookstore featuring local art books and products.\u003cbr/\u003eThe annual Salihara Festival features a combination of Indonesian and foreign performances, concerts and dances. The Salihara Biennale showcases the country's writers and literary works.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Salihara Community hosts regular discussion forums where literary works, arts, and philosophy are discussed by the audience and experts.\u003cbr/\u003eFor art lover Amir Sidharta, the centre plays a critical role at a time when commerce and economic growth are pushing the arts out of the
