She cast her own daughter in the film to play a young version of herself.  \u003cbr/\u003eRuffalo and Saldana play parents, Cameron and Maggie, in the 1970's. WhenRuffalo's character loses his job after having a nervous breakdown, the family falls on hard times. \u003cbr/\u003eMaggie gets accepted into an MBA program out of state and must leave their two daughters in the care of their father.  \"It's all the more rich because it's based on real people and you could tell that story and you have those references to do things that you probably never would have imagined on your own,\" said Ruffalo.  \u003cbr/\u003eSaldana said the story struck a chord with her because she lost her own father as a child.  \"It sort of had a very powerful impact on me once I read the script because of the whole father and daughters relationship and that sort of hit home for me,\" said the actress. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says to help Forbes share her story was a meaningful experience and one she did not take lightly.  \"To kind of have this beautiful eulogy for her parents and the sacrifices that they made especially you know her dad beating all those challenges that he had and being compromised with the illness that he was born with, it just it felt every day was an emotional day for us. There were moments in which we would do scenes that would hit home for Maya so much.   \u003cbr/\u003eSaturday's premiere marked Ruffalo's eighth film at Sundance.  \"I have a history at this place,\" he explained. \"This will be my eighth movie here and the first time I came here was in 1990. I didn't have a movie here and I lived in a ski dorm with a bunch of skiiers for $30 a night, dreaming about the day that I'd get to go to Sundance with a movie (laughs) and here I am eight movies later and 30 years worth of Sundance.
