\u003cbr/\u003eBarcelona is a typical modern western European city, which prides itself on its cosmopolitan reputation. \u003cbr/\u003eHomosexuals no longer hide their relationships or mask their identity on the streets of the Catalan capital. \u003cbr/\u003eThe city's residents accept their homosexual neighbours as part of every day life in Barcelona. \u003cbr/\u003eAbout a year ago, the Spanish parliament adopted a law permitting marriage between two people of the same sex. \u003cbr/\u003eSince then hundreds of homosexual couples have decided to make their union permanent, declare their love publicly and also enjoy the legal benefits afforded to heterosexual married couples. \u003cbr/\u003eJordi Bullo and Alfred Melero were recently married at Barcelona's city hall. \u003cbr/\u003eIn an emotional ceremony the two men made their vows and exchanged rings in front of friends and family. \u003cbr/\u003eAna, Jordi's ex-wife says she just wants him to be happy, believing that his happiness will be passed down to their children. \u003cbr/\u003eJordi Petit, a homosexual rights activist and wedding guest, said the AIDS epidemic that afflicted much of the gay community made it necessary for the surviving partner to be given legal rights to affairs of their long-term lover. \u003cbr/\u003eJordi and Alfred say that they had hoped that one day homosexuals would be given legal protection - but marriage was an added bonus. \u003cbr/\u003eJordi's main motivation for getting married was his concern for if something happened to him, Alfred would have legal rights towards Jordi's children.\u003cbr/\u003eMany Spaniards supports the gay marriage law despite the country being at one time a strictly Catholic society.\u003cbr/\u003ePope Benedict, the leader of the Catholic church, believes homosexually is morally wrong. \u003cbr/\u003eSome Spaniards share the Pope's view.\u003cbr/\u003eBarcelona's E-Cristians Platform, an online Christian community, are working to have the same-sex legislation overruled.\u003cbr/\u003eJosep Miro Ardevol, the president of E-Cristians Platform, says many on the left of politics in Europe don't accept homosexual marriages, with the exception of Spain. \u003cbr/\u003eMiro Ardevol says that the more visible that homosexuals are in society the more they will be rejected. \u003cbr/\u003eOne same-sex couple at Jordi and Alfred's wedding were happy to publicly celebrate their relationship.\u003cbr/\u003eJoana Roch and Sabina Bisbe, homosexual rights activists, said that the chance to get married has been a dream come true for them. \u003cbr/\u003eJordi says that he and Alfred are thrilled to join the thousands of couples who have married in the past year. \u003cbr/\u003eRafael Ojeda, alias Falete, is a rising star in Spanish flamenco music. \u003cbr/\u003eGifted with a powerful voice, he has never disguised his sexual orientation, displaying on stage a flamboyant wardrobe of silk mantillas (scarves) and big diamond rings that has made him famous. \u003cbr/\u003eFalete says everyone is equal in the eyes of God and should also be equal in the eyes of the law.\u003cbr/\u003eThe law that was approved June 30, 2005 in Madrid not only allowed marriage between homosexuals, but also legal adoption for those couple with the same rights than their heterosexual counterparts.\u003cbr/\u003eBarcelona and
