supermarket shelf.\u003cbr/\u003eBottle water is sold as distilled water, spring water and mineral water.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd in many cases, bottled water companies market their products for their purity and health benefits as compared to the allegedly less cleaner tap water.\u003cbr/\u003eBut according to a Washington DC- based environmental group, it is not necessarily true. \u003cbr/\u003eIn a four-year test of 103 brands of bottled water, the Natural Resources Defence Council found that a third of the brands tested contained bacteria or other chemicals exceeding the industry's own guidelines or the most stringent state purity standards.\u003cbr/\u003eThe study, released on Tuesday, acknowledged that most bottled water is of good quality, but that the industry is left largely to tap water suppliers, bottlers do not need to disclose to consumers known contaminants in their products.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile bottled water is regulated as a food by the Food and Drug Administration, the N-R-D-C study said it is subject to weaker standards when it comes to a wide range of contaminants than ordinary tap water which comes under the Environmental Protection Agency.\u003cbr/\u003eSo, the very people that could be buying bottled water for it's alleged health benefits could be affected by the bacteria found in it.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Some young infants, people who have had transplants, people who have had chemotherapy, people that have aids, the frail and elderly and some on immuno-suppressive medications may be at an elevated risk from some of the bacterial contaminants that where found in some of the waters.These often are the very people who are turning to bottled water in order to avoid health risks from tap
