Zimbabwe has an average of a little over five percent. Five times as many people are dying of cholera in Zimbabwe than anywhere else. Cholera generally is a disease of war. It's a disease in a total collapse of sanitation and security of the community, so 5-times more people are dying from the situation of utter collapse of a government. In some places in Zimbabwe, as high as 36-percent of the population are contracting cholera and dying. That is in itself an indictment of the government of Zimbabwe.\"\u003cbr/\u003e9. Donaghue speaking during interview\u003cbr/\u003eA Zimbabwean opposition official said on Tuesday he was abducted in December and tortured by an army officer for four days before escaping to South Africa.\u003cbr/\u003eBothwell Pasipamire, a 30-year old a town councillor, alleged he was beaten on the soles of his feet and genitals, doused with water and locked in a small room.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said about two dozen other men were being held on a farm. \u003cbr/\u003eDuring a news conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Pasipamire told reporters he believed he was abducted because he had been a vocal opponent of the ruling Zanu-PF party.\u003cbr/\u003ePasipamire described Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe as a \"very dangerous person\". \u003cbr/\u003eHe said it would be too dangerous for him to return to Zimbabwe with Mugabe in control, but said he hoped his party, Movement for Democratic Change, would look after him.\u003cbr/\u003eThe torture allegation comes as an international physicians' group on Tuesday called for Mugabe to be investigated by the International Criminal Court for possible crimes against humanity.\u003cbr/\u003eThe US-based Physicians for Human Rights said that corruption is killing Zimbabweans. \u003cbr/\u003eThe group told the The Associated Press that the United Nations should take over Zimbabwe's health system, including its collapsed water supply, to halt the toll of unnecessary deaths from easily cured illnesses such as cholera.\u003cbr/\u003eThe findings and recommendations of an investigative team that visited Zimbabwe for seven days in December were published in an emergency report called \"Health in Ruins - A Man-made Disaster in Zimbabwe\" on Tuesday in South Africa and by former Irish President Mary Robinson at the United Nations, according to the organisation's chief executive officer A. Frank Donaghue.\u003cbr/\u003eThere was no immediate comment from the World Heath Organisation about the physicians' report.\u003cbr/\u003eZimbabwe is suffering a humanitarian crisis and economic meltdown while Mugabe and the opposition argue over sharing power after disputed presidential elections.\u003cbr/\u003eThe United Nations has said half the population faces imminent starvation, and the doctors said Mugabe's government is manipulating international aid.\u003cbr/\u003eThe World Health Organisation said on Tuesday that the cholera death toll in Zimbabwe had risen to 2,024 deaths
