Former workers at YPF outside the congress awaiting the vote \u003cbr/\u003eThe lower house of the Argentine Congress started on Wednesday the debate leading to the voting on the bill to nationalise the oil-company YPF (Yacimientos Petrol�feros Fiscales).\u003cbr/\u003eThe senate already approved this bill which formalises the seizure of 51 percent of YPF stock, owned until two weeks ago by Spanish oil company Repsol. \u003cbr/\u003eRepsol, which bought YPF in 1999 and had 57.43 percent of the shares, will be left with 6.43 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eLawmakers gave the session a patriotic flavour by raising the flag and singing the national anthem before proceeding to the political debate.\u003cbr/\u003eMost Argentines see the move as the recovery of YPF, a national symbol that has they feel has always been rightfully theirs.\u003cbr/\u003eBoth houses are under control of Argentinian president Cristina Fernandez''''s party and the bill is expected to be put to the vote on Thursday. \u003cbr/\u003eOpposition parties are also in favour of nationalising the country''''s largest oil company which was privatised two decades ago.\u003cbr/\u003eOnly the conservative PRO (Propuesta Republicana) said they would vote against the bill claiming that the president is only trying to cover up a major energy crisis with the YPF takeover.\u003cbr/\u003eWith the national economy growing, the country is in desperate need of oil and gas to support its industry and services.\u003cbr/\u003eArgentina this year expects to import more than 10 (b) billion US dollars worth of gas and natural liquid gas to address an energy crisis even though it is an oil-producing nation.\u003cbr/\u003eThe takeover comes after months of pressure on YPF to increase its Argentine oil and gas production. \u003cbr/\u003eFernandez and her ministers have complained that Repsol failed to invest enough in Argentina''''s energy future, taking profits out of the country in the form of dividends, and exporting too much of Argentina''''s oil to profit from world prices, rather than supplying price-controlled markets within Argentina.\u003cbr/\u003eRepsol denies this, saying it has invested
