You know he will turn out to have been one of the most important British designers of the latter part of the 20th century, no question,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eMcQueen is up against other fashion nominees like Christopher Kane and, quite surprisingly, The Gossip singer Beth Ditto.\u003cbr/\u003eThe full-figured celebrity designed a range of clothes for UK high-street retailer Evans.\u003cbr/\u003eLisa-Marie Peacock, who closely worked with Ditto to design the collection, says the clothes reflect Ditto''s eclectic style.\u003cbr/\u003e\"She''s a generous, happy, you know, thoughtful person who loves life and has so much energy and we hope you can see that in the clothes,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eBeth Ditto''s 23 Evans designs come in UK size 14 to 32, in a price range reaching from �20 (31$ US Dollars) to �60 (94$ US Dollars).\u003cbr/\u003eBut Janet Street-Porter is not convinced by Ditto the designer.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I don''t like celebrities pretending they''re designers, but I do like Beth Ditto. But she''s no designer. If she''s a designer, I''m a bowl of custard,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eWalking around the exhibition, it seems as if there are eyes everywhere.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd indeed, 100 pandas follow visitors'' every move. They turn their heads in unison to whatever direction onlookers are walking in.\u003cbr/\u003eCommissioned by the WWF, Panda Eyes is made up of 100 WWF panda money-boxes from the 1960s and 70s.\u003cbr/\u003eArtist Jason Bruges says he got the idea for Panda Eyes from the unnerving gaze the pandas gave him. \u003cbr/\u003e\"So we thought couldn''t it be really interesting if they tracked you as you walk around the room? And the idea really was to sort of make you feel slightly uncomfortable and therefore it questions your own interactions with the planet,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003eDivided into 7 categories, the Brit Insurance Design Awards celebrate the most forward-thinking designs of the last 12 months.\u003cbr/\u003eThe categories include architecture, furniture, products and graphics plus interactive design and transport design.\u003cbr/\u003eBMW''s concept car GINA Light features in the latter category, challenging traditional ideas of a car.\u003cbr/\u003eIt replaces the car''s rigid structure with a seamless fabric skin, stretched over a moveable wire frame that enables the car to change its shape whilst driving.\u003cbr/\u003eBut don''t get too excited, this model will remain a pure concept car and will never come into production.\u003cbr/\u003eWith all these very different takes on outstanding design, Street-Porter explains what makes a design successful.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think great design is things that you wish you had thought of, and the second category is, there''s things you wish you''d thought of, and the second category is things that you look at and you just think that is so imaginative and simple and perfect, why did it take them so long to come up with that.
