ROMERO is soon to release his latest thriller, \"Bruiser\" onto an unsuspecting public.\u003cbr/\u003eThe film which wrapped production earlier this year in Toronto, boasts an eclectic cast including \"Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels\" star, JASON FLEMYNG, Canadian actress LESLIE HOPE (\"Love Streams\") and Swedish actor, PETER STORMARE (\"Fanny and Alexander\", \"Fargo\")\u003cbr/\u003eThe story, which was created by Romero, revolves around Henry Creedlow (Jason Flemyng), a man who has always tried to fit in, keep his mouth shut and follow the rules. But one morning he wakes up to find that his face has literally gone. All the years of acquiescence have cost him the one thing he can't replace. His identity. Now he's a blank, outside as well as in, an anonymous, featureless phantom.\u003cbr/\u003eNot surprisingly, Creedlow explodes and sets out on a revengeful rampage to murder the people who have done him wrong. The wife who has been cheating on him for years, the best friend who has been robbing him blind and the boss who has treated him like dirt. As Flemyng describes it, ' \"Bruiser\" is like \"Falling Down\" on acid.'\u003cbr/\u003eThe police pursue him but he defies identification. Only one person, (played by Leslie Hope) gets close to him, a woman he has admired from afar but whom he cannot be with just yet. \u003cbr/\u003eWith each act of revenge, he forges a new identity for himself, revelling in the freedom that his anonymity bestows.\u003cbr/\u003eOn the day APTN visited the set, Romero was filming a party scene in a warehouse. The party has been paid for by Henry's rather sadistic boss (played by STORMARE)the owner of a successful magazine who decides to play a nasty joke on his staff by inviting them to a costume party on the dodgy side of town, filled with aggressive, rather threatening people.  During the party, Henry appears disguised in \"Phantom of the Opera\" style cloak and mask and takes the opportunity to murder his nasty employer by zapping him in the head and testicles. Nice....\u003cbr/\u003eAs part of the party scene, Romero invited punk band, \"The Misfits\" to perform. The band, who were already big \"Night of the Living Dead\" fans were only too pleased to oblige, and Romero has agreed to repay the favour by directing their latest video for them.\u003cbr/\u003eEven Romero's own family were cast in the movie ; from his young son to his teenage daughter, Tina (who plays a gogo dancer at the party) and his wife, Chris, who plays an eccentric lady with a birdcage on her head. In fact, being extras in Romero's films is practically the only way to see him according to Chris.\u003cbr/\u003eRomero is a pivotal figure in the development of the contemporary horror film. His first feature, \"Night of the Living Dead\" (1968), redefined the genre, not only with its explicit violence, but with a satirical view of American society that reflected the turmoil of the times. Ethnically and sexually integrated, antimacho, and always skeptical of the conventional wisdom, Romero's work epitomizes the progressive wing of a sometimes reactionary genre. \u003cbr/\u003eOther films include \"Martin\" ('78), a lyrical, deeply disturbing story of a lonely boy who is convinced that he is a vampire and \"Dawn of the Dead\" ('79) which is set in a typical suburban shopping mall where a band of struggling survivors are beset by zombies and their own personal demons. This film became one of the most profitable independent productions in film history.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the eighties, Romero went on to make \"Knightriders\", based on Arthurian legend, \"Creepshow\", adapted from a STEPHEN KING novel, and \"Day of the Dead\", the ostensible finale to the zombie trilogy.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Monkey Shines\" ('88), hailed by Newsweek as a \"whiteknuckle triumph\" was the director's first studiodeveloped film, followed by \"Two Evil Eyes\" ('90), based on two tales inspired by EDGAR ALLEN POE on which he collaborated with DARIO ARGENTO.\u003cbr/\u003eHis most recent film before \"Bruiser\" was \"Dark Half\" ('93), based on a Stephen King novel and starring TIMOTHY HUTTON. Although praised by critics, the film's completion and release were hampered by the bankruptcy of its distributor, Orion.\u003cbr/\u003eRomero, more than anyone else understands how independent films like the 1999 surprise blockbuster, \"Blair Witch Project\" can spark a frenzy of copycat films in Hollywood. He also knows that genres come in and out of fashion and that the only way to survive is to stay true to one's own, very personal vision...\u003cbr/\u003eLook out for \"Bruiser\" around July
