Right now we are having a dialogue but I am not here to convert the Dalai Lama into a Catholic and he's not here to convert me into a Buddhist,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Tuesday, the spry-looking 74-year old Dalai Lama led some 10 thousand worshippers at a sports arena in Kaohsiung during a colourful prayer service for the survivors of Typhoon Morakot, which took an estimated 670 lives when it struck Taiwan early last month.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Dalai Lama is broadly respected on this mostly Buddhist island of 23 (m) million people, and local media have given considerable attention to his visit.\u003cbr/\u003eHis arrival in Taiwan has however been particularly galling to China, because Beijing regards the island as part of its territory.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Dalai Lama is reviled by many in China because he has a large international following and has managed to keep its alleged heavy-handed rule over Tibet in the spotlight. \u003cbr/\u003eSome pro-China demonstrators have also protested his appearances in Taiwan, but they are in a distinct minority.\u003cbr/\u003eChina itself has tried to focus its ire on Taiwan's opposition, which issued the invitation to the Tibetan spiritual leader. \u003cbr/\u003eTaiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou signed off on the invitation, but in an apparent gesture of goodwill to China, he said he would not meet the Dalai
