remain closed. \u003cbr/\u003eStudents at St. Andrews, a Catholic school in Algiers, a neighbourhood in the city's west bank started classes today for the first time since two hurricanes smashed into Louisiana last month.\u003cbr/\u003eParents, students and school officials at St. Andrews were all enthusiastic about the re-opening of the school, a sign they say brings some normalcy to their community. \u003cbr/\u003eIt was \"very important to get them back in a routine that they have being missing\" and \"back with their friends,\" Scott Senner, whose children attend St. Andrews' told APTN.     \u003cbr/\u003eHowever, many students were attending the school for the first time today, after being displaced from their regular schools which were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, in other outlying neighbourhoods of New Orleans. \u003cbr/\u003eFor the time being many of these displaced students will have to attend schools like St. Andrews until their own can be repaired and in some cases rebuilt. \u003cbr/\u003eThe US Army Corps. of Engineers who are helping with the recovery efforts of New Orleans, say most areas of the city should be dry by Wednesday.\u003cbr/\u003eContractors at the temporary pumping station - set-up with the help of German and Dutch engineers - say they are pumping 56,000 gallons of water out of the devastated area every hour, a rate they say should leave the area dry within the next two days.\u003cbr/\u003eThe west bank of New Orleans is completely dry, according to city officials, prompting Mayor Ray Nagin to open those areas to returning residents. \u003cbr/\u003eEngineers say once the lower Ninth Ward is completely dry, recovery efforts can begin - which could mean in some cases, completely razing badly devastated areas.\u003cbr/\u003eAlmost every home and building sustained substantial damage from winds or flood waters which inundated the area after the levees were breached in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Ninth Ward was doubly punished when Hurricane Rita hit New Orleans just two weeks after Katrina, re-flooding the district when fragile repairs on the levee were broken.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Army Corps of Engineers predicts they will be able to repair and reconstruct Louisiana's fragile levee system to pre-Katrina levels by June 1, 2006.\u003cbr/\u003e\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003c/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv
