A hurricane warning is current  from...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eHurricane Floyd is closing in on the North Carolina-South Carolina border region.\u003cbr/\u003eAs of 1700 G-M-T, the storm was centred 376 kilometres (235 miles) south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. \u003cbr/\u003eA hurricane warning is current  from Titusville, Florida, to the North Carolina-Virginia border.\u003cbr/\u003eFloyd is now a category three storm with sustained winds of 200 kilometres-per-hour (125 miles-per-hour). \u003cbr/\u003eMeteorologist say for the time being, the warm waters of the Gulf Stream should keep it from weakening further.\u003cbr/\u003eFlorida was spared the worst Wednesday as Floyd set its sights farther north.  \u003cbr/\u003eBut winds whipped through some parts of the state. At Jacksonville Beach choppy waves crashed into the shore.\u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of airline flights in and out of Florida and Georgia had been cancelled and Amtrak suspended train service into and out of Miami.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile many fled inland, some residents stayed to ride out the storm.\u003cbr/\u003eThe storm has forced 42-thousand people into shelters and put  nearly 2 million (m) people on evacuation orders.\u003cbr/\u003eThe most serious damage in Florida was to piers in Daytona Beach and Jacksonville Beach where wooden pilings collapsed.\u003cbr/\u003eFloyd is a monstrous storm - 900 kilometers (600 miles) wide.\u003cbr/\u003eBut it has weakened somewhat over the last 24 hours and is now classified as a Category 3 storm, with sustained winds of 200 kilometres per hour (125 mph).\u003cbr/\u003eLandfall was forecast late Wednesday night or early Thursday somewhere between Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Wilmington, North Carolina.\u003cbr/\u003eFederal Emergency  Management Agency Director James Lee Witt says wherever it hits, there will be serious problems.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"I ask North Carolina, I said, 'How many people do you think this is going to effect with the storm surge we're going to get in North Carolina, particularly from the flooding?'. They said possibly a million people. South Carolina is the same way. There's going to be hundreds of thousands of people that's going to be effected by just the storm surge, not even considering the wind and the damages from that, and the downed trees.
