Tracking shot of empty toll road\u003cbr/\u003eSpanish drivers are choosing cost cuts over short cuts, by steering clear of the country's toll roads.\u003cbr/\u003eThe AP-42, a toll road which links Madrid to the nearby city of Toledo, is the latest privately run motorway to go into receivership.  \u003cbr/\u003eIt is one of a total of five concessions that have declared bankruptcy with another nine in serious financial trouble. \u003cbr/\u003eSpain has 21 companies running privately owned roads.\u003cbr/\u003eIn many parts of the country, mile upon mile of newly built motorway are left empty as Spaniards choose to go the long way round. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to figures from the central government's development ministry, daily usage of the toll roads has gone down 28 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the first quarter of 2012 the average number of cars on toll roads was 14.483, on par with numbers 14 years ago.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I never use toll roads, not at all.
