Various of patient chanting and crying.
Pockets of Kachin State have some of the highest concentrations of drug abuse in the world.
Young Kachin men are junkies hooked on heroin.
But now an evangelical rehabilitation centre is breathing hope back into the community.
Freshly dumped hypodermic syringes litter cemeteries and shaded corners in Myitkyina in Kachin State.
These addicts are chasing the next hit in this abandoned cemetery.
Their choice of drug is heroin. As the drug surges through their veins, the relief is audible - but short lived.
One hit is about 5000 kyat ($6 US dollars).
Here the hopeless mix with the dead in the cemetery.
On Myanmar's northern border with China, the opium - or heroin trade - passes through Myitkyina on route to China and Europe.
The area is known for having one of the highest concentrations of drug addicts in the world.
Now one evangelical group is working to rehabilitate the young men. It says nearly 80 percent of ethnic Kachin youth are addicts.
The Kachin Baptist Convention is an evangelical group with over 300 churches in the state.
This is the first drug rehabilitation camp that Kachin Baptist Convention has created on the outskirts of Myitkyina in Nan Kyn village.
The evangelical rehabilitation camp is one of the few places addicts can seek help.
Before sunrise, the 31 patients wake up from their dormitories, and begin drug rehabilitation, which will last all day. The treatment lasts for 3 months.
They come to find healing in God, and spend hours studying the Bible with the help of two pastors and four former drug addicts turned therapists.
And when Bible class is over, they sing Christian gospel songs around the camp fire and support each other.
Just 31 of the 49 men who came to the camp - the first the convention has ever set up - managed to finish the three-month program.
The addicts range from farmers to university students.
Myanmar's last active ethnic insurgency is ongoing in Kachin State.
Myanmar has been wracked by pockets of civil war since independence in 1948. In the last two years, the government has managed to sign effective ceasefires with every group but the Kachin.
Fighting broke out in June 2011 between the Kachin Independence Army, which has been struggling for greater self-rule, and ethnic Burmese majority government forces. It has continued despite the announcement of a ceasefire in January.
Here in the shadow of the fighting, even drug abuse becomes politicised.
Recovering drug addicts say the government is actively encouraging drug use to dull the proud, independent Kachin people.
Kun Htoi Shawong, one of the camp mentors, recovered from eight years of addiction after slitting his wrists in a suicide attempt.
''Why do they want to do this to our ethnic people? Even in my neighbourhood there are more people who are addicted. Almost every house has someone that is addicted. Everyone's in trouble. Kachin people have lost their homes, and are facing social problems because of the heroine addiction. I could not take it anymore, part of me wanted to escape, but now I want to help others."
Addiction to heroin and other drugs has in recent years become widespread among the youth population in Myanmar Kachin State.
According to Kachin Baptist Convention, an evangelical organisation with 15 associations and over 300 churches, almost 80 percent of the youth in Myitkyina are drug users, and in particular users of heroin.
KBC members as well complain that Myanmar Government authorities are ignoring the drug problem that is threatening the Kachin community and, in many cases, of being involved with it, in the middle of a long ethnic conflict that rages the northernmost Burmese state.
62-year-old Gryung Heang is the pastor of the camp church. He says the government is turning a blind eye to drug abuse because it wants to decimate young potential fighters.
"They want to destroy the Kachin youth especially because there is fighting going on and they (the government) do not want young people to participate in it. Drug users are useless and the government has adopted a policy of destroying our youth."
Kachin is also one of the main areas of opium poppy drug production in Myanmar, according to the United Nations.
Myanmar is the world's second largest opium producer, and despite attempts by the government to eradicate the problem, the heroin hold continues.
Opium production increased by 17 percent in 2012 to 51,000 hectares according to the UNODC.
And the drug is so endemic in society that it is difficult to tackle the addiction to opium, says Naw Khone, a patient at the rehabilitation centre.
The 30-year-old addict is married with one child. Naw Khone studies the Bible to overcome his addiction.
Naw Khone was a drug user for 9 years. He started using drugs when he was 21, and they were widely available.
Now married with a child, he sings and studies the Bible to try to get rid of his addiction.
''If we know, why don't the police know? Myint Thein, who oversees a drug abuse control unit. "It is just a false accusation."
Inside the rough wood and corrugated metal sheds of the rehabilitation camp, it is plain that getting off drugs is a deeply personal process, not a political one.
18-year-old U Ra La Sar started taking drugs when he was 13. He worries when he leaves the camp that he will not have the willpower to battle his demons.
Clearly emotional, he regrets his wasted youth: "When I use drugs, I only think about getting the money all the time. I am really angry when I can't get money. But now, when I look back, it's so pathetic."
43-year-old Naw San runs the rehabilitation camp.
