Reporters packing up at the end of news conference\u003cbr/\u003eU.S. Muslim activists called on Thursday for the immediate release of an American journalist whose Iraqi kidnappers have threatened to kill her. \u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking on the eve of their departure from Jordan for Iraq, two executives of the Washington-based Council of American-Islamic Relations said they were doing their utmost to save the life of Jill Carroll, a 28-year-old freelance reporter for the Christian Science Monitor who was kidnapped on January 7. \u003cbr/\u003eThe pan-Arab TV channel Al-Jazeera has broadcast a video of Carroll in the custody of a previously unknown group called \"The Revenge Brigade.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe report said she would be killed on Friday unless the U.S. authorities agreed to release all women detainees in Iraq. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We appeal to the kidnappers to release unharmed, Jill Carroll,\" Nihad Awad, the national executive director of the Council of American-Islamic Relations, told reporters.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said they were aware they were racing against time but were hopeful that their voices on behalf of U.S. muslims would be heard.\u003cbr/\u003eAwad said the group wanted to aid Carroll because she is known for her objectivity as a reporter.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is the first time the group has intervened on behalf of an American hostage in Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eThe group's government affairs director, Corey Saylor, said of Carroll: \"We feel that she has an outstanding reputation as an objective reporter.
