Various of street strewn with bodies of people killed in chemical attack (++NOTE includes bodies of children++) \u003cbr/\u003eAn Iraqi man has been reunited with his mother 20 years after being taken to Iran following a chemical attack on the Kurdish city of Halabja.\u003cbr/\u003eTwenty years ago and during the Iran-Iraq war, Zimnaku Mohammed Salih, was found by the Iranian military, which had moved into Halabja after the lethal gas was dropped by Saddam's military on the Kurdish city. \u003cbr/\u003eIt took two decades for the young man, who was named Ali Pour by his adopted family, to find his mother through Iranian officials who kept records on the Halabja survivors brought to Iran.\u003cbr/\u003eBefore being reunited with his real mother, six other families said they were missing a boy who would now be Ali's age. \u003cbr/\u003eA judge asked for DNA tests from a medical lab in Jordan and the families nervously awaited the results.\u003cbr/\u003eAli, was deemed to be the sole surviving child of 58-year-old Fatima Mohammed Salih, who had lost her husband and all her other six children in the poison gas clouds that covered the mostly Kurdish city.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Once here everybody believed that Zimnaku Mohammed Ahmad had died, but now ... I am alive,\" Ali said, as he stood next to a gravestone with his name on it.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I am sure many of these names written on these memorial stones are alive, living in Iran or anywhere else in the world.\" \u003cbr/\u003eAli was taken by Iranian soldiers to Iran following the closing months of an horrific war between the two countries that began in 1980.\u003cbr/\u003eMany of the Halabja survivors were taken to Tehran for medical treatment.\u003cbr/\u003eThe infant boy was brought to a hospital with plans to send him eventually to an orphanage, said his Iranian uncle. \u003cbr/\u003eBut his sister, Kubra Pour, offered to care for the boy along with her two children in the Iranian city of Mashhad.\u003cbr/\u003eAs Ali recalled, his adopted mother told him about his Kurdish roots when he entered primary school at age six.\u003cbr/\u003eFour months ago, his adopted mother was killed in a car accident, Pour said.\u003cbr/\u003eHe contacted Iranian officials and they contacted Halabja officials, who answered with the names of six families who had a missing son as well. \u003cbr/\u003eThe reunion on Friday in Iraq's northern Kurdish region was a moment of joy after the day in which the city became an open cemetery for an estimated 5,600 people killed when the gas was dropped.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was part of Saddam's brutal 1987-88 campaign to crush a Kurdish rebellion. \u003cbr/\u003eNearly 200-thousand people died in Baghdad's scorched-earth offensive.\u003cbr/\u003eThe alleged mastermind of the Halabja attack, Saddam's cousin known as \"Chemical Ali\" Hassan al-Majid, is among regime officials who have been sentenced to death for the Kurdish crackdown and other crimes.\u003cbr/\u003eThe trial specifically on Halabja is still under way.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I hope Saddam Hussein still suffers in the other world, and answers to all the oppressions he carried out,\" Ali said in the Iranian language Farsi, the only language he speaks.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I hope all those who were responsible in this (chemical attack on Halabja), all those European countries who gave these kinds of bombs to Saddam, Ali Hassan Majid, all of them, I hope one day they'll pay for what they have done,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eAs Ali Pour learned the fate of his Kurdish family, his own story was told through translators. \u003cbr/\u003ePour knows only life in eastern Iran - far from the Kurdish region that straddles Iraq, Iran and Turkey.\u003cbr/\u003eAli or Zimnaku, is the only known case of a long-lost child from Halabja being definitively reunited with a relative. \u003cbr/\u003eThe assistant chief of the Directorate  of the Martyrs of Halabja, said 41 names, children at the time of the attack, are still registered as missing.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen the attack took place, Ali's family was at home, his mother recalled.\u003cbr/\u003eThere was utter panic. They first ran into the streets and then went back inside.\u003cbr/\u003eZimnaku, the four-month-old, was on his mother's lap and suddenly an older son screamed saying, 'Mother, I feel like I'm burning.'\u003cbr/\u003eFatima Mohammed Salih said she tried to help her sons, but it was in vain.
