You had folks that were afraid. Some of the ladies went upstairs into the office. They just covered up with a sheet or what have you and got under the covers and prayed that they see the next day and that they didn't wake up some where that they didn't know about. Mid shot of parade float components, pan to mid shot of US soldiers looking at float components. \u003cbr/\u003eWorkers in a warehouse facility near central New Orleans are keeping alive the hope of a Mardi Gras celebration, despite the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.\u003cbr/\u003eMardi Gras World is a key storage location for many parade floats and components used each year for the festivities. \u003cbr/\u003eThe sprawling warehouse is a haven for scores of the full-sized parade floats, adorned with flashing light displays and brightly coloured images common in the annual Mardi Gras fete that the city is famous for. \u003cbr/\u003eBlaine Kern's Mardi Gras World facility is located in Algiers, a community just south of the business district of downtown New Orleans across the Mississippi River. \u003cbr/\u003eOn Monday, New Orleans officials began allowing citizens to return to the Algiers area. On Monday afternoon, New Orleans' Mayor Ray Nagin suspended a plan to allow citizens to return to selected parts of the city due to the threat from Hurricane Rita.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe area suffered some damage from Katrina, but was spared from the devastation of flood waters that poured into parts of New Orleans when some of the city's levees broke. \u003cbr/\u003eEven as the city struggles to deal with the wrath of Katrina, and even with the concern that another hurricane may be headed their way, workers inside Mardi Gras World continue the work of repairing and building parade floats.\u003cbr/\u003eFloat craftsman Mark Olivier says they're also busy building parade floats and other festival items for other cities in the region who are preparing for Mardi Gras events of their own. \u003cbr/\u003eHe and other workers here believe Mardi Gras celebrations will go on in some areas, and are hopeful some form of Mardi Gras gala will occur along the famous French Quarter of
