Wide tilt down of traffic in main street of Jakarta\u003cbr/\u003eAs delegates at a global warming conference in Thailand thrash out the best way to reduce greenhouse gases, one country in Asia is already already trying to combat global warming. \u003cbr/\u003eIn Indonesia the Environmental Minister, Racmat Witoelar, believes the production of new cars in Jakarta should be limited in order to reduce the effects of global warming.\u003cbr/\u003eWith more than 12 (m) people Jakarta is one of the most densely populated city in the world and with three (m) million vehicles on the roads every day it is also one of the most polluted cities on earth.\u003cbr/\u003eWitoelar said an environment-friendly solution is needed in order to reduce air pollution caused by carbon emission from vehicles. \u003cbr/\u003e\"There are more than three million cars distributed, so if there is no supporting technology, we have to limit the sales of new-produced cars.  It is better to buy used cars than to just add another one to the streets,\" Witoelar elaborated. \u003cbr/\u003eBut Witoelar's idea has attracted criticism from the car production industry.\u003cbr/\u003eThe head of the Indonesian Vehicle Producer Industry Association, Freddy Sutrisno, said it's not about less cars on the road but better roads in the city.\u003cbr/\u003eSutrisno believes a better infrastructure in Jakarta would mean less traffic jams which would lead to less fuel consumption.\u003cbr/\u003e\"(Government) needs to be concerned that the infrastructure in the big city causes a disturbing traffic jam.
