So there are mature olive trees from Spain we've brought across with this display. Obviously olives are important for olive oil, a real staple product throughout the Mediterranean and world wide now. Obviously olives are exported all over the world. We've tried to show how the traditional process of pressing olives and extracting the juice from the olives to make the oil. How that process works and how the landscape is managed in order to grow the olives. We have an indoor display which is, as I said, made up of largely of mature olive trees from Andalusia, and olive press equipment that has been brought across.\"\u003cbr/\u003e9. And one of the important habitats within the Mediterranean is obviously coastal habitats. So we've built a beach at Kew, which has been absolutely fantastic, it has allowed families to come and their children can play in the beach, build sand castles. But also we're trying to get people to think a bit more about where they go on holiday, how they go on holiday, and the effect that has on the environment. So some of the information we're giving people whilst there sat enjoying the beach is telling them about the impact we have on the environment, particularly the Mediterranean. One of the most common plants, which is now really beginning to thrive over here is lavender. So, we all love lavender, it's very therapeutic, it has a lot of qualities for us. And it's also a great very easy, low maintenance plant to have in our gardens. It's doing so well this year because of the sort of extended hours of sunshine, a lot of heat. Lavender really enjoys being baked, and as long as you plat it with a lot of grit, so that it does not have water around the roots, it drains all the water away, then it's doing very well, and we're getting a very good crop from it this year.\"\u003cbr/\u003e23. hope to highlight the changes in the United Kingdom's climate.\u003cbr/\u003eSummer 2007 has a distinct Mediterranean feel at London's premier Botanical Gardens.\u003cbr/\u003eThe organisers at Kew Gardens have created a celebration of all the Mediterranean regions in the world.\u003cbr/\u003eOn display are olive groves, cork trees, chilli gardens, and even a real beach. \u003cbr/\u003eMichael Williams, the Festival Manager, says they wanted show just how much the weather in the United Kingdom's is changing and how Mediterranean plants can now be grown be everyone.\u003cbr/\u003eIn recent years the UK has experienced hotter summers, with climatic conditions resembling more those of continental Europe.\u003cbr/\u003eScientists at the UK Metrological office say that recent research undertaken in the Midlands and East Anglia show that since 1960 average temperatures have increased by one degree celsius (33.8 degrees Fahrenheit).  \u003cbr/\u003eHere at Kew visitors wander around olive groves that normally would look more at home in southern Spain.\u003cbr/\u003eWilliams says the have tried to recreate a traditional olive grove which includes old olive trees shipped from Spain.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the indoor display, old gnarled tress shadow a guide who is talks about how olive oil is extracted.\u003cbr/\u003eThe festival manager says the recent warm weather means olive trees can now grow in the UK.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, the event does not only focus on olives.\u003cbr/\u003eThe organisers have created a large beach area for young families visiting the park.\u003cbr/\u003eWilliams says they hope the beach area will educate visitors about the delicate Mediterranean costal environment.\u003cbr/\u003eOne thing that is apparent is that the beach is a big success with the visiting children.\u003cbr/\u003eChildren all ages construct sand castles under the watchful eyes of their parents.\u003cbr/\u003eJools Heyward, a horticulturist, says because of the change in climate they are seeing traditional Mediterranean plants thriving in the park.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says one such plant is lavender.\u003cbr/\u003eThis year the plant has done so well the park has its very own lavender field.\u003cbr/\u003eAlso, in keeping with the Mediterranean's passion for food, the organisers have created their own chili display.\u003cbr/\u003eThe display features all sorts of weird and wonderful chilies from all across the world.\u003cbr/\u003eWesley Shaw, the Display Manager, says that although chillies do not originate in the Mediterranean, they do grow in similar climates in South America. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Mediterranean festival is being held from the 26 of May to the 9 September 2007. \u003cbr/\u003eKew Gardens has over 132 hectares of landscaped gardens and attracts over one million visitors per year.\u003cbr/\u003eThe garden was listed a UNESCO world heritage site in
