Wide pan of IDPS waiting for relief supplies \u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of people lined up to collect food aid from the Pakistani government and international aid agencies on Friday in Dera Ismail Khan district after fleeing their homes in neighbouring South Waziristan, where Pakistan continues its offensive against Taliban militants.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fighting has displaced tens of thousands of people, many of whom found shelter with relatives in the district.\u003cbr/\u003eThe internally displaced have been left with little food and relief supplies and many have lost all their possessions.\u003cbr/\u003eAt a relief supplies distribution centre in Dera Ismail Khan city (same name as district) the nearest large city outside the fighting zone, hundreds of internally displaced people queued up to receive rations of flour.\u003cbr/\u003eOne IDP blamed the government for the long lines.\u003cbr/\u003e\"If the government opened several distribution centres, the people would have received help more easily,\" Gulab Mehsud said.\u003cbr/\u003eAnother displaced man complained that he had been beaten by police officers when he went to collect bags of flour which were supposed to be distributed as a part of the aid effort. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to the UN, as many as 155-thousand civilians, maybe more, have fled South Waziristan in recent months.\u003cbr/\u003eAuthorities say up to 200-thousand people may also flee in the coming weeks, but the government doesn't expect to have to house them in camps, because most have relatives in the region.\u003cbr/\u003eThe United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) says that access to people in need remains the key challenge for humanitarian agencies, given the volatile security environment in the displacement areas. \u003cbr/\u003eUNHCR along with emergency aid, assistance will need to be extended to hospitals, schools and other public facilities that may come under strain with large influxes of people. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Pakistani military moved into South Waziristan almost two weeks ago vowing to crush the Pakistani Taliban, a militant network it says is behind 80 percent of the suicide bombings in Pakistan. \u003cbr/\u003eThe militants have responded with an onslaught of attacks around the country.\u003cbr/\u003eLocal and foreign militants, including those belonging to al-Qaida, have extended their influence across much of the tribal regions in recent years. \u003cbr/\u003eUnder US pressure, the army has moved against them in several places, but questions remain over their commitment to the fight.\u003cbr/\u003eWashington backs the operation because militants in the northwest region are believed to shelter al-Qaida leaders and attack Western troops in Afghanistan.\u003cbr/\u003eMilitant attacks in Pakistan have surged this month, killing more than 250 people, as the Taliban have tried to avert the army offensive in South Waziristan. \u003cbr/\u003eOn Wednesday alone, a car bomb in a crowded market in Peshawar killed 105 people, more than half of them women and children.\u003cbr/\u003eThe military announced on Saturday it had captured the hometown of Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud - its first major achievement in the offensive.\u003cbr/\u003eThe army has deployed some 30-thousand troops to South Waziristan to
