Pull-out to wide of news conference\u003cbr/\u003eChina's top quality watchdog on Wednesday dismissed reports that workers at a dumpling factory deliberately poisoned the dumplings that sickened at least ten people in Japan. \u003cbr/\u003eWei Chuanzhong, deputy head of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine, said there was nothing unusual in the production at the factory in Hebei province, just outside Beijing, blamed for producing the infected dumplings that made Japanese consumers ill last month.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Nothing unusual has been found from any segment, including the input of raw material, production of dumplings, transportation and export,\" Wei said.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Any artificial sabotage from the production to the transportation is almost impossible,\" he added. \u003cbr/\u003eThe exporter of the dumplings, Tianyang Food Factory, has been stopped from producing, selling and exporting its goods. \u003cbr/\u003eIts products have also been recalled.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dumplings were contaminated with traces of an organic phosphorus insecticide called methamidophos, which caused severe abdominal pains, vomiting and diarrhoea, Japanese officials said.\u003cbr/\u003eTraces of methamidophos were found in the dumplings, their containers and in the patients' vomit, Japan's Health Ministry said.\u003cbr/\u003eChina's reputation as a safe exporter has taken a beating in the past year following the discoveries of dangerous chemicals tainting products from toothpaste to toys and a pet food ingredient. \u003cbr/\u003eWith the Beijing Olympic Games less than 200 days away, authorities have promised rigorous measures to ensure safe food supplies, even unveiling an Olympic Food Safety Command Centre to deal with food emergencies.\u003cbr/\u003eWei said the dumpling issue was \"an individual case\" and urged people not to be concerned about China's food safety systems, particularly during the Olympic Games.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The Chinese government and the Beijing Organisation Committee of the Olympic Games have established a flawless and effective monitoring system of food safety.
