They told us: 'we have asked for vehicles, they don't give us any, we don't have the logistics to go to Bab el-hawa'. They are being held prisoners by the Syrian system.\"\u003cbr/\u003e9. Wide of news conference   \u003cbr/\u003eSyria's top opposition leader called on the Arab League on Sunday to bring the United Nations into the effort to stop the violence plaguing the country. \u003cbr/\u003eBurhan Ghalioun, the Paris-based leader of the Syrian National Council, made the plea as Arab League officials were setting up teams of foreign monitors as part of their plan aimed at ending nine months of turmoil that the UN says has killed more than 5,000 people.\u003cbr/\u003eOpposition groups say the Arab League is not strong enough to resolve the crisis, which is escalating beyond mass demonstrations into armed clashes between military defectors and security forces and a double suicide bombing that shook Damascus on Friday.\u003cbr/\u003eGhalioun urged Arab leaders to intervene to stop what he described as a \"real massacre\".\u003cbr/\u003e\"We also ask the United Nations, the Secretary General of the United Nations and the European leaders - we are in Europe - to intervene, like France did and say: 'this tragedy must end',\" he added.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Arab League has begun sending observers into Syria to monitor compliance with its plan to end to the crackdown on political opponents. \u003cbr/\u003ePresident Bashar Assad agreed to the League plan only after it warned that it could turn to the UN Security Council to help stop the violence.\u003cbr/\u003eThe plan requires the government to remove its security forces and heavy weapons from city streets, start talks with opposition leaders and allow human rights workers and journalists into the country.\u003cbr/\u003eThe opposition has accused Assad of agreeing to the plan only to buy time and forestall more international sanctions and condemnation.\u003cbr/\u003eGhalioun claimed that Arab league Observers were already being restricted in their efforts to put a stop to the crackdown.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Today, I spoke on the phone with the observers that have arrived at Homs\" he claimed on Monday. \"We asked them why aren't you going down to the town of Bab el-hawa, towards the town's centre?
