Premier Wen Jiabao reportedly told Chrétien that the two nations should aim to double their bilateral trade by 2010.\u003cbr/\u003eChrétien said one promising area for trade growth was helping China construct more nuclear power plants.\u003cbr/\u003eIn 1996 Chrétien participated in the signing of a 4 (B) billion U.S. dollar contract between Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and the China National Nuclear Corporation for construction of two 700-megawatt CANDU 6 reactors in Qinshan, south of Shanghai. \u003cbr/\u003eAs Canada's first reactor sale to China, Chrétien said the power plant was delivered within budget and on time. \u003cbr/\u003eThe United States also echoed similar sentiments in the need to see more fair trading between the two countries.\u003cbr/\u003eU.S. Trade Representative, Robert Zoellick, said Wednesday that China needs to make faster progress in complying with its World Trade Organisation obligations if it wants to ensure continued access to U.S. markets.\u003cbr/\u003eCriticizing Beijing for being slow to remove barriers to U.S. imports, Zoellick said he told Chinese officials, including Vice Premier Wu Yi, that trade needs to be a two-way street. \u003cbr/\u003eIn pushing for a greater commitment to open markets from China, he said he pointed to specific problems such as soy bean trade, allocation of tariff-rate quotas and protection of intellectual property. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite the tacit threat to block China's access to U.S. markets, Zoellick said the U.S. objective should still be to have open markets on both sides of the
