their own mosques. \u003cbr/\u003eThe effort comes just days after federal authorities named seven suspected al-Qaida terrorists and launched an international manhunt for them.\u003cbr/\u003eMuslim community leaders joined federal and local law enforcement officials in Los Angeles to back the national awareness effort.\u003cbr/\u003eThe move is sponsored by the Muslim Public Affairs Council which focuses on human rights and other issues of concern to followers of Islam in America. \u003cbr/\u003eOfficials of the group say they're urging mosques and other Muslim groups to \"be on the look-out\" for suspects named this week by federal authorities.\u003cbr/\u003eThey recommend that mosques create a network to provide information on potential terror threats in their areas. \u003cbr/\u003eFliers showing photographs of the seven people named by US officials will be handed out to mosques nationwide, said officials of the group. \u003cbr/\u003eThe council also sent a letter to US Attorney General John Ashcroft requesting a meeting with Muslim leaders.\u003cbr/\u003eMaher Hathout, an advisor to the council, defended the record of Muslim Americans in denouncing terrorism and violence. \u003cbr/\u003eCiting the Koran, he said terrorism was against the spirit and law of Islam.\u003cbr/\u003eMuslims have been working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies since the September 11, 2001, attacks to counter terrorism, but the effort has received little media attention, said Mathout.\u003cbr/\u003eFBI Director Robert Mueller will be meeting Muslim leaders \"in the very near future\" to discuss the plan, said Steven Gomez, assistant special agent in charge of counter-terrorism at the Los Angeles FBI
