Video art film showing lonely women sitting\u003cbr/\u003eAn exhibition highlighting the plight of female concentration camp inmates was in the spotlight on Sunday, as Israel commemorated the country's annual Holocaust Remembrance Day.\u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibition, which opened Friday, shows how one prisoner traded a day's food ration for a needle to make a bra, and another made a comb and hair rollers from scrap wire. \u003cbr/\u003eThe women, inmates of German concentration camps, are featured in the exhibition, which opened on Friday at Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust museum. \u003cbr/\u003eThe displays focus on how women coped in the face of Nazi brutality.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Even in Auschwitz, and the other camps, they still wrote recipes or talked about recipes and it was a way to survive for them. To still feel that they are women, to still believe in their selves, to remind themselves that they still know how to do things\" , Exhibition Curator Yehudit Inbar told AP Television. \u003cbr/\u003eFeaturing photographs, written accounts and articles preserved from the war, \"Spots of Light: To Be A Woman in the Holocaust,\" contains dozens of examples of women's attempts to preserve their humanity. \u003cbr/\u003eNira Stern wrote a recipe book in a place where good food was just a dream.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I wrote the recipes into the book. Because I was very optimistic that one day I can come out of there and then I can try them out\", she said. \u003cbr/\u003eHer book is on display and Nira says she still enjoys the recipes today.\u003cbr/\u003eAlso on display is a bra that Lina Beresin, a seamstress, fashioned from lining she removed from men's jackets. \u003cbr/\u003eShe used thread from her blanket, a shard of glass instead of scissors, and a sewing needle she received from another prisoner in exchange for a day's ration of food.\u003cbr/\u003eHolocaust remembrance day lasts from sundown Sunday to sundown Monday.\u003cbr/\u003eEvery year in Israel, bars, clubs and other entertainment venues close and Holocaust programming fills the airwaves. \u003cbr/\u003eAir-raid sirens sound throughout the country
