We found that playing classical music at periods throughout the lunch will help our students focus on eating the well-balanced meals we serve in our cafeteria. We've structured it that we have about six and a half minutes of talk time, where there's no music playing. (laughter)\"\u003cbr/\u003eA new scheme is underway in the US to encourage young children to eat more healthily.\u003cbr/\u003eKindergartens have resorted to playing music during lunch breaks.\u003cbr/\u003eSuwanee Georgia kindergarten - and the lunchroom chatter comes to a halt as New Age music blares out over loudspeakers. \u003cbr/\u003eWith conversations stilled by the music, there's not much choice but to eat. \u003cbr/\u003eSo the children make serious headway on their milk, burgers and veggies.\u003cbr/\u003eThree minutes later the music stops, and the conversations resume.\u003cbr/\u003ePrincipal of Sharon Elementary School, Amy Bartlett, says that playing music in intervals helps student focus on eating a well balanced lunch.  \u003cbr/\u003eSearching for serenity in the lunchroom, teachers in north Georgia's Forsyth County may have found a way to keep their students quiet and focused on their meals.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen the music is not playing, students are allowed to talk, tease and do whatever else kids normally do during lunch. But when the classical or New Age music begins, the students must stop talking and start eating.\u003cbr/\u003eAbout a dozen of the county's 16 elementary schools play music during lunchtime. Forsyth County school administrators said they don't have hard numbers to prove the project's success, but a look at the lunch trays tells the story.\u003cbr/\u003eWithout the music, Bartlett says, much of the lunch ended up in the trash.\u003cbr/\u003eTeachers said it helps students and teachers alike.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's claimed it really helps with keeping the youngsters quiet. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd third-grade teacher, Kristi Dawdy, says it just helps them keep an eye on the children.\u003cbr/\u003eStudents, too, don't seem to mind. Some said it didn't take them long to learn to follow the top rule posted on the lunchroom's white walls: \"Quiet during music.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think it's very entertaining\" says Mary Kathryn
