also a former guerrilla leader.\u003cbr/\u003eIf the trend continues, Flores looks set to win the contest outright, avoiding a second round runoff against Guardado.\u003cbr/\u003eTurnout appeared to be below 40 percent of the 3.1 million registered voters - perhaps in response to a tepid\u003cbr/\u003ecampaign. \u003cbr/\u003eIn 1994's presidential elections, turnout was about 55 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eA former parliament speaker and onetime student of an Indian guru, Flores has softened the often violent rhetoric of Salvadorean politics -
