Tuesday.\u003cbr/\u003eProsecutors claim that Thaksin transferred shares \"back and forth\" among people close to him to deliberately hide his wealth.\u003cbr/\u003eThe chief lawyer for the National Counter Corruption Commission said in his opening statement to the Constitutional Court, that the prime minister's claim he was not aware of those share transfers was unacceptable.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Thailand, Thaksin's trial is seen as a bellwether for the future of political reforms started in 1997 with a new Constitution, which set up the Constitutional Court and the anti-corruption commission.\u003cbr/\u003eThe commission indicted Thaksin in December, just before his party's sweeping victory in general elections on January 6. \u003cbr/\u003eIf the Constitutional Court upholds the ruling, Thaksin would be barred from public office for five years, which would likely throw Thailand into political confusion.\u003cbr/\u003eThe NCCC's investigation found that Thaksin \"transferred huge amounts of shares\" held by him and his wife to\u003cbr/\u003eother people when he was serving as a Cabinet minister in a previous government in 1997.\u003cbr/\u003eThaksin, a millionaire telecom tycoon, has denied any wrongdoing and says the failure to declare the assets was a secretarial oversight.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says  the job of the National Counter Corruption Commission is to catch people who do wrong, not to catch people who simply make money. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Prime Minister remains confident he'll get justice.\u003cbr/\u003eThaksin, who will be represented by his lawyers during the first  two-day hearing, has said he will not appear in person until required for cross-examination.\u003cbr/\u003eHis lawyers are expected to argue on a technicality that the ruling against Thaksin by the corruption commission was invalid, as one of its members broke regulations by simultaneously serving on the board of a private company.\u003cbr/\u003eAnalysts say the Constitutional Court will be caught between a rock and a hard place -- handing out a guilty verdict will mean the ouster of an official who was popularly elected by people who knew that Thaksin had been indicted for corruption.\u003cbr/\u003eSince taking office in February, Thaksin has been rushing to fulfill election promises, which include cheap
