It was murkier. It was just murkier and certainly what was witnessed was every bit as awful as what's witnessed by our young men and women today.\"\u003cbr/\u003ePitt plays a hardened Army sergeant named Wardaddy, who commands a five-man tank crew on a deadly mission into Nazi Germany after the allied invasion.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 50-year-old actor saw no reason why his 13-year-old son Maddox shouldn't see the film, despite its realistic violence.\u003cbr/\u003e\"My oldest son has seen it, yeah. My oldest son has seen it. He's a World War II buff,\" Pitt said.\u003cbr/\u003eHe explained his rationale.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I come from a different generation I guess as far as that's concerned,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003e\"My father would take us to the Drive-In as very young kids and we'd see Clint Eastwood movies and Kung Fu movies. I just have a different take on that. The world is a beautiful place, it's also a very violent place and we talk about it afterwards and I'm not so opposed.\"\u003cbr/\u003eLaBeouf looked past the violence and felt camaraderie with his cast mates.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There's a lot of love in that tank, overwhelming love. I never had brothers, so it's wild to make that happen out of nowhere. Strangers turn into brothers in seven months. It's a trip,\" LaBeouf said.\u003cbr/\u003eThat provided a better understanding of the bonds men make during war.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's unconditional love. Society doesn't really allow for men to unconditionally love one another unless you're at war,\" LaBeouf said.\u003cbr/\u003eLaBeouf - often tabloid fodder during the last year - was involved in an incident in June that began with getting ejected from the Broadway musical, \"Cabaret,\" and ended with him spending the night in jail.\u003cbr/\u003eThe actor isn't dwelling on the negative press though.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's fun to laugh about stuff,\" LaBeouf said.\u003cbr/\u003eFormer \"Walking Dead\"' star Jon Bernthal feels it was necessary to make the film as real as possible to honor those that served during World War II.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think the goal here was to dive in as fully as possible. Look, what we get to do is we get to work under the umbrella of safety. We're trying to get as fair, as fresh and as real a taste of what life really would have been like for these guys, so we pushed ourselves to go to as dark a place as possible and to endure as much as possible and get as proficient on that tank as possible, so I'm proud for the commitment. I'm very proud of all these guys,\" Bernthal said.\u003cbr/\u003eDavid Ayer, who wrote and directed the film, admits he took a \"white knuckle\" approach when making the film.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It was a brutal set, let's just say that. I mean these guys did a lot of work together. They trained together. They fought to together. They slept together. They ate together. They really bonded as brothers, so that chemistry on the screen is absolutely real. You bring the skill of the actor to that brotherhood and camaraderie they felt as real people. Nothing can beat that,\" Ayer said.\u003cbr/\u003eLogan Lerman plays the rookie of the bunch - and that wasn't just in the movie.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I was the new guy every day so I got treated like that but the same time I went through everything that every one of these guys went through. We dedicated our whole year to this one movie, which is rare. We gave up four months in prep and we shot the movie for five months and gave one hundred percent of ourselves to the project and didn't hold back,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eMichael Pena confirmed that much of the physical interaction between the cast was real. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We actually did spar for a month before that and you really get to know somebody when you spar with them. It's just one of those things. But it was a rough shoot for sure. It was very physical. Everybody wanted to do it for real and everybody had the same amount of dedication.
