The Institute has been dubbed the \"Fame\" school after being modelled on...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eNatural Sound \u003cbr/\u003eFormer Beatle Paul McCartney has welcomed Britain's Queen Elizabeth to his home city of Liverpool to formally open his Institute for Performing Arts. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Institute has been dubbed the \"Fame\" school after being modelled on the New York school featured in the film and TV series \"Fame\". \u003cbr/\u003eMcCartney showed the Queen round his pet project - but refused to be drawn on rumours on whether was expecting to meet her again in the near future - to receive a knighthood. \u003cbr/\u003ePaul McCartney has been waiting a long time to see his dream come true - his \"Fame\" school becoming a reality with the formal opening by Britain's Queen Elizabeth.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's six years since the rock star revealed his dream of establishing a performing arts school for students from around the globe.\u003cbr/\u003eMcCartney took the Queen on a tour of the new school which is on the site of McCartney's former grammar school - The Liverpool Institute.\u003cbr/\u003eShe met students and staff in the dance, music and recording classes.\u003cbr/\u003ePaul McCartney has been the driving force behind the building of Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. \u003cbr/\u003eBut many ordinary people helped fund the nearly 24 (m) million U-S dollar school - Liverpool school children sent part of their pocket money to build L-I-P-A.\u003cbr/\u003eDuring the tour, the Queen saw a dance performance and met with the students.\u003cbr/\u003eShe heard a student band called The Salvation play one of their own numbers.\u003cbr/\u003eMcCartney also showed the Queen a recording studio.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's the first time McCartney has met the Queen since she saw the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra perform Beatles music at the Albert Hall 14 years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eThere's mounting speculation he could be meeting her again later this summer - when she'll tell him: \"Arise Sir Paul\". \u003cbr/\u003eBut McCartney dismisses talk of  a knighthood as \"too embarrassing to think about\".\u003cbr/\u003eLiverpool, United Kingdom, 7 June 1996\u003cbr/\u003e1.
