I think it's another attempt to change the subject, Microsoft doesn't like the subject we're dealing with is 1995, market division meetings and they want to go back to 1994 and talk about things that don't relate to that.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION:  David Boies, Justice Department\u003cbr/\u003eIn the e-mail, Clark expressed regret that the two companies couldn't agree on a deal for Microsoft to adopt Netscape's browser software which allows people to view information on the Internet.\u003cbr/\u003eThe testimony is significant because the government contends Microsoft illegally offered to divide the market for Internet software with Netscape during a June 1995 meeting. \u003cbr/\u003eThe government charges that, as further incentive, Microsoft offered to invest in Netscape.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Microsoft lawyers sought to use Clark's 1994 invitation to suggest that any overture it made six months later was merely a response. \u003cbr/\u003eThe government, however, says it will show that Microsoft quickly rejected Clark's proposal and did not refer to it during the 1995 meeting.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think that what we need to watch here is no matter what Microsoft's attempts are to re-write the facts, the facts will speak for themselves in this case. First we were able to show through the sworn testimony of the co-founder and chairman of Netscape the Bill Gates has said publicly in 1994 that in October of 1994 that Microsoft was putting the browser into our operating system for free. This goes to the heart of the government's case because they allege that Miscrosoft only put the browser into the operating system in order to hurt Netscape. In October 1994 Netscape had not even brought forward its first Beta version of its browser product.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Mark Murray, Microsoft spokesman\u003cbr/\u003eMicrosoft also sought to portray its own business strategies against Netscape as legal but aggressive.  \u003cbr/\u003eThis included giving away its browser and encouraging Internet providers and computer makers to distribute its browser over Netscape's.\u003cbr/\u003eMicrosoft suggested that Netscape essentially never charged for its browser.\u003cbr/\u003eIt said Netscape never sought the 39 dollar payment from customers who downloaded the browser but failed to pay.\u003cbr/\u003eIn response to Microsoft's tactics, Netscape began to officially give away its browser. \u003cbr/\u003eThe company now makes
