Zoom in between fishing ropes to young boys sitting on beach and woman walking with sack on her head
The Tanzanian island of Zanzibar is well known for its breathtakingly beautiful coastline, creamy sand beaches and turquoise blue water.
Holidaymakers from around the world flock there for a slice of paradise.
Tourism isn't the island's only money-maker though.
Thousands of people are making a living from seaweed, which is used in products such as toothpaste and processed meat.
But some say the island's culture and traditions are preventing its people from realising the crop's full market potential.
Tanzania sells the third largest amount of seaweed in the world.
Tanzanian government figures show that approximately 7,000 metric tonnes was exported over the last 12 months - worth $850,000 US dollars.
The industry is proving to be one of the most profitable mariculture (cultivation of marine organisms in their natural habitats, usually for commercial purposes) activities for communities in Zanzibar.
Seaweed was first harvested here in the early 1950s.
The plant has a high content of carrageenan, a carbohydrate, which is found in the seaweed's cell walls and is used as a gelling, thickening and emulsifying agent.
Two species are harvested here: spinosum and the more lucrative cotonii.
Cottoni, which averages $500 per metric tonne, is used as a food additive and gelling agent in a variety of products including processed meat, ice-cream, powdered milk, body lotion and pharmaceuticals.
Spinosum, which sells here for around $200 per metric tonne, is used as a gelling/binding agent for toothpaste and pet food.
Zanzibar sells the most spinosum in the world.
The Jambiani beach, in south-eastern Zanzibar, is thriving.
Women balance sacks of seaweed on their heads as they ferry it to land.
It's the most seaweed productive part of the island, with more than a thousand people working there.
The whole process starts with a 100 gramme (0.2 pound) seaweed seedling which is tied on to lines of rope.
They're then placed in to the seawater and left to grow for around six weeks until each seedling reaches between 750 grammes (1.6 pounds) and a kilo (2.2 pounds).
After being picked, the seaweed is then left to dry for three days - until its moisture content has reduced to 30%.
Roger Morre, from the Philippines, runs the 'C-Weed Corporation' - the largest exporter of seaweed in Zanzibar. He's been here for a decade.
From his warehouse in Zanzibar, he exports nearly 300 metric tonnes of spinosum and nearly 70 metric tonnes of cottoni every month, mainly to France and the United States.
But coming from the world's largest exporter of seaweed, (the Philippines) he knows from experience that Tanzania could be producing much more, were it not for cultural and traditional constraints.
Morre says that here traditionally men and women don't work together and when it comes to seaweed, the men say it's a job for females only and stick to fishing.
The irony is women are earning a guaranteed income and generally higher salaries than their husbands, but that hasn't managed to change attitudes.
Most women don't learn how to swim and stay well away from deep water. It means they only harvest the seaweed during two weeks of the month when it's low tide.
In contrast their husbands, who generally work as fishermen, can swim and so if they were to get involved, they'd inevitably work throughout the month producing more seaweed and in turn earning a higher income.
But attitudes are hard to change and women continue to make up 90% of employees.
And it's not only cultural attitudes that are limiting production, many people here believe in witch-craft and fear evil spirits.
One of the seaweed farmers Fatuma Mwadini says that the fear of spirit and wild animals prevents them working at night.
Demand is high but suppliers like Moore say that Zanzibar just isn't reaching its potential and producing enough seaweed, particularly cotonii, which has a higher commercial value.
Clients are reminded:
(i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use
